WDGA encourages our youth to participate in community activities, both locally and globally. Participants in the United States join with their counterparts in Africa to achieve similar objectives by working through cultural exchanges. Teens collaborate and organize community events in their respective communities.
WDGA began its work in Nakuru, Kenya, in 2006, and expanded to the Eastern communities of Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, in 2011. Having first worked with students at Steel Valley High School in the Steel Valley School District in Homestead, PA, WDGA now also has outreaches and activities at Gateway High School in Monroeville (Gateway School District), with special focus also to the community of Pitcairn.
Other events by WDGA have resulted in connections with students from Allderdice High School and Westinghouse High School of the Pittsburgh School District; and Penn Hills High School in the Penn Hills School District.
WDGA's "Local to Global" approach has fostered cross-cultural learning and connection, emphasizing education, exposure, empowerment, experience, and employment.
